Proverbs 22:4
“Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not turn from it.”
Children’s schedules are B-U-S-Y these days! School mornings are full of learning; sports afternoons are full of growing; and weekends are full of competitions and activities! Mostly, these activities are great fun and teach foundational skills to our young people. The act of raising and training children sometimes play second fiddle to the continual buzz of busyness!
While our children are busy developing a phenomenal skill set with which to successfully master their careers one day, the more hidden “Relational” skill set is developed when children observe and experience their parents’ interactions over time. These skills are vital in ensuring that children grow up to have happy and healthy relationships and become loving and committed parents one day. The way we engage with our children and others under pressure becomes the way they engage with their peers and children in times of frustration or disappointment – there is no escaping the seeds we sow. Within the wide range of parenting styles, values and principles is ONE fundamental truth: Teaching your children about the Lord by having a living relationship with Him will be the biggest foundation for success in your children’s lives. This is the most important rule to live by!
Colossians 2: 6 – 7 “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught and overflowing with thankfulness.”
May the Lord help us in this enormous, long-term task of bringing our children successfully into adulthood. Make God your source of help and wisdom, and your children will learn He is their provider. Trust the Lord to protect your children, and they will learn He is their protector. Make the Lord the centre to your life, and He will become the centre of theirs.
